Role overview
We are seeking a Mobile QE – Automation Engineer with strong experience in testing and automating native iOS and Android applications.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing and executing functional and non-functional test strategies to ensure the quality and stability of mobile application releases. The role requires strong hands-on experience with Appium, TestNG, mobile automation and API testing, along with the ability to maintain and execute automation test suites across iOS and Android platforms.
You will work closely with development, product and QA teams to identify quality risks, automate critical test scenarios and ensure applications meet functional, performance, usability and accessibility requirements.
Key responsibilities:
1. Mobile Application Testing
- Design and execute functional test scenarios for native iOS and Android applications.
- Perform end-to-end testing across different mobile application workflows.
- Validate application functionality across supported devices, operating systems and screen sizes.
- Execute regression, smoke, sanity and integration testing for mobile releases.
- Identify, document and track defects through resolution.
- Ensure application releases meet defined quality standards.
2. Mobile Automation
- Design, develop and maintain automated test suites for iOS and Android applications.
- Develop mobile automation scripts using Appium.
- Use TestNG for test execution, organization and reporting.
- Identify appropriate candidates for automation and continuously expand automation coverage.
- Maintain reusable automation frameworks and components.
- Troubleshoot automation failures and improve test stability.
- Integrate automated tests into the overall quality and release process.
3. API and Services Testing
- Design and execute API test scenarios for mobile backend services.
- Validate API requests, responses, status codes, authentication and data integrity.
- Perform integration testing between mobile applications and backend services.
- Use appropriate tools to troubleshoot API and application issues.
- Ensure backend services support mobile application functionality reliably.
4. iOS and Android Testing
- Perform application testing across both iOS and Android platforms.
- Work with Android SDK and Xcode for application testing and troubleshooting.
- Analyze device-specific issues and platform-specific application behavior.
- Validate application behavior across different OS versions and device configurations.
- Collaborate with developers to reproduce and troubleshoot mobile defects.
5. Non-functional and Accessibility Testing
- Perform relevant non-functional testing for mobile applications.
- Validate application usability, reliability and performance.
- Conduct mobile accessibility testing against applicable accessibility standards.
- Identify accessibility issues related to navigation, controls, labels, contrast and user interaction.
- Support quality improvements across different user and device scenarios.
6. Device and Environment Management
- Execute tests across physical devices, emulators and simulators.
- Work with device cloud platforms for broader device and OS coverage.
- Configure and maintain mobile test environments.
- Analyze device-specific failures and determine whether issues are application, platform or environment related.
- Maintain appropriate test-device coverage for critical application workflows.
7. Defect Management and Quality Reporting
- Log and manage defects using Jira or similar defect-management tools.
- Provide clear reproduction steps, logs, screenshots and supporting evidence.
- Collaborate with developers and product teams to clarify expected behavior.
- Retest fixes and manage defects through closure.
- Prepare test execution and automation status reports for stakeholders.
- Communicate release risks, quality concerns and test results clearly.
8. Test Strategy and Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to mobile test strategy and automation planning.
- Identify opportunities to improve test coverage, execution efficiency and automation reliability.
- Review existing automation suites and recommend improvements.
- Establish reusable testing practices across mobile projects.
- Participate in QA process improvements and engineering best-practice initiatives.
Required technical skills and competencies:
- 4+ years of experience in mobile application testing and QA automation.
- Strong hands-on experience testing native iOS and Android applications.
- Strong experience with Appium for mobile automation.
- Experience with TestNG and automation framework development.
- Experience with mobile API/service testing.
- Good understanding of mobile application testing methodologies.
- Experience with Jira or similar defect-management tools.
- Working knowledge of Android SDK and Xcode.
- Experience testing applications across multiple devices and OS versions.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
- Good understanding of functional and non-functional testing.
- Ability to design effective test scenarios and automation coverage.
