Role overview
The Lead Azure Platform & DevOps Engineer will lead the assessment, design, implementation, and modernization of the cloud engineering platform supporting enterprise applications. This role is responsible for establishing Azure infrastructure, GitHub-based DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), container platforms, security automation, and deployment governance. The individual will define and implement a modern DevSecOps platform that enables secure, scalable, and automated application delivery.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead the assessment and modernization of cloud infrastructure, DevOps processes, release management, and engineering platform capabilities.
- Design and build end-to-end CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Azure Pipelines for frontend applications, backend services, APIs, and supporting platform components.
- Design and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for provisioning and managing Azure resources using Bicep, Terraform, or ARM templates.
- Define Azure landing zones, networking, identity, governance, monitoring, and environment management aligned with cloud best practices.
- Lead containerization initiatives using Docker and Kubernetes, including deployment and management of applications on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
- Implement DevSecOps practices including security gates, dependency scanning, SAST, secret management using Azure Key Vault, automated policy enforcement, and deployment approval workflows.
- Establish GitHub Enterprise best practices, including repository strategy, branching standards, pull request governance, code quality checks, and release automation.
- Design deployment strategies supporting blue/green, rolling, and canary deployments while minimizing production risk.
- Implement application monitoring, logging, observability, alerting, and operational dashboards using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights.
- Collaborate with architects and engineering teams to ensure platform capabilities align with the future-state technical architecture and modernization objectives.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and DevOps governance across engineering teams throughout the modernization and delivery lifecycle.
Required skills and experience:
- 10+ years of experience in Azure cloud engineering, DevOps, and platform engineering.
- Deep expertise with GitHub Enterprise, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, and Azure Pipelines.
- Strong experience designing enterprise CI/CD pipelines for frontend, backend, APIs, and microservices.
- Extensive experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, or ARM Templates).
- Hands-on experience with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Docker, container orchestration, and container lifecycle management.
- Strong understanding of Azure services including App Services, Azure SQL, Azure Storage, Azure Key Vault, Azure API Management, Azure Service Bus, Azure Functions, Virtual Networks, and Azure Monitor.
- Experience implementing DevSecOps practices including SAST, dependency scanning, vulnerability management, secrets management, policy enforcement, and secure software supply chains.
- Experience designing deployment strategies, release governance, environment management, and production deployment automation.
- Strong knowledge of monitoring, observability, logging, performance tuning, and operational excellence.
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale cloud modernization and migration initiatives.
Must have skills:
- Strong expertise in GitHub Enterprise, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Hands-on experience with Terraform, Bicep, or ARM Templates (IaC).
- Strong experience with AKS, Docker, and container orchestration.
- Expertise in Azure services, DevSecOps, monitoring, and deployment automation.
